5 Air Coolers In Malaysia Under RM500

With temperatures recently soaring between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius in many states of Malaysia, including Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi and Johor Bahru, there are more reasons to stay indoors to keep ourselves cool.  

However, staying indoors alone may not be the answer to keeping us cool and comfortable. Cooling devices like an air cooler present an efficient and portable solution. What Are Air Coolers? 

Like air-conditioners, air coolers also aim to release cool air into their surrounding environment. However, the mechanics may differ in that air coolers try to fan hot air towards a water-soaked pad. When the air passes through the pad, the water evaporates and becomes the cool air that we enjoy. On the other hand, air conditioners use a refrigerant chemical to turn hot air into cool dry air. 

For the air cooler to work, you will need to fill its water tank with water or cold water for maximum breeze. 

There are a few types of air coolers from the larger and more powerful tower air coolers to portable air coolers that are smaller in size for easy mobility. The larger tower air coolers are usually used in larger spaces like restaurants.  

Another type of common air cooler is the desert air cooler, which is suitable for use in commercial spaces like factories where there’s immense heat and dryness.

It has a power consumption of 65W and you can adjust the fan speed according to your needs with a 3-speed setting of high, medium and low. The air cooler also offers humidifying functions by releasing moisture into the air in dry places. 

At RM299, the Morgan Mac-Windy could be suitable for room sizes of between 15 and 20 square metres.   

#2 Elba 7L Air Cooler (RM310)

The popular Elba brand is distributed by local company Fiamma Sdn Bhd in Malaysia, since 1979. The brand offers a wide range of home appliances from kitchen wares, refrigerators, beverage makers and lifestyle appliances to water heaters and air coolers.       

Priced at RM310, the Elba 7L Air Cooler has quite a decent water tank capacity of 7L and a low power consumption of 65W with 3 modes for fan settings. It also comes with a digital panel and remote controller for convenient control of the settings. Some of the features include a timer and safety cut off, which can be handy for those who use the air cooler regularly throughout the day. 

If you need to turn on your air cooler continuously for a long period of time at home, you could consider Elba’s air cooler which costs RM310. 

Alternatively, if you need a bigger capacity, you can consider the Elba Air Cooler which comes with a 14L water tank, double the size of the Elba Air Cooler 7L. For the upsize in capacity, you may need to top up RM139.  

With a bigger tank, the air cooler can store more water, so you don’t have to worry about refilling often, which can also last you for longer hours. 

#3 Russell Taylors iCool Air Cooler (RM379.99)

Launched in 2016, Russell Taylors was founded by local entrepreneur Satish Kumar Raguchandran with offices in Malaysia and the UK. The brand has risen in popularity in recent years and is known for its products that have eye-pleasing aesthetics.   

You can purchase any of Russell Taylor’s products directly via its own website or visit its brick-and-mortar shops at 7 locations scattered throughout Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Penang. 

The Russell Taylors iCool Air Cooler, which retails for RM379.99, comes with a 5L water tank and consumes 80W of power. There’s a 3-fan speed setting which you can adjust according to the level of fanning you need. Aside from providing a cool breeze, the air cooler also has humidifying functions. 

#4 Pensonic PAC 104M Air Cooler (RM396)

Founded in 1965 in Penang, Malaysia, Pensonic had a humble start as a shop cum workshop Keat Radio & Electrical Co, before becoming the household brand it is today in the country. Pensonic is known in more than 20 countries around the world. 

The Pensonic PAC 104M Air Cooler, which meets the industry standards by SIRIM, comes with a 7L water tank and a 3-speed fan setting to cool down temperatures. 

It runs on 65W and is equipped with a sprinkling system for humidity. 

#5 Midea MAC-120AR 10L Air Cooler (RM499)

Founded in 1968, Midea is a Chinese home appliance brand with an extensive global presence in 195 countries. 

The Midea MAC-120AR Air Cooler offers 410 cubic metre/hour air flow while running on quite a low power at 60W. With a water tank of 10L, the air cooler automatically shuts down when there’s no water in the tank, protecting the appliance.  

The air cooler also comes with a 3-speed fan setting and remote controller for easy adjustment.
