There are two types of mobile phone plans in Malaysia: postpaid and prepaid plans.
A postpaid plan is one that charges you at the end of the billing cycle for usage after the fact. Whereas, with a prepaid plan, you will need to pay upfront for a plan that offers various services, such as making calls and connecting to the internet. Depending on your usage and the plan, you may be paying every month or shorter, as opposed to postpaid plans, where you pay based on a fixed billing cycle of 30 days.
One advantage of prepaid plans is that if you have utilised the usage limits before the validity period of the plan, you can always top up to refresh the usage limits. Moreover, you will never overspend than the credits that you top up for the phone plan.
In Malaysia, where around 70% of mobile cellular subscriptions are prepaid subscriptions, these prepaid plans cater to different needs whether it’s travel, regular usage or for students.

Monthly Prepaid Plans
The 1-month validity prepaid plan is the most popular in Malaysia, with all mobile service providers offering plans with varying internet data. All providers have unlimited internet prepaid plans. However, do note that some unlimited internet plans adhere to the Fair Usage Policy (FUP), whereby upon full utilisation of the FUP data, the internet speed will be throttled to a reduced speed until plan expires.
