5 Electric Cars Under RM120,000 That You Can Buy In Malaysia

As countries around the world continue to tackle climate change, demand for low-emission vehicles is expected to grow in coming years. The Malaysian government has mentioned plans to enhance manufacturing of local electric vehicles and the supply chain ecosystem, including building of charging infrastructure and regulation on electric vehicles and batteries.

This is in alignment with the country’s Low Carbon Nation Aspiration 2040, which aims to achieve a higher level of electric vehicle penetration of 38% in 2024.  In addition, during the tabling of the National Budget 2024, the government also announced an extension of tax relief worth up to RM2,500 for individuals on the subscription, purchase and installation of electric vehicle charging facility to 2027.   

So, if you’re looking to purchase an electric vehicle, here are five that you can buy in Malaysia.

#1 Neta V – RM99,300

Launched in Malaysia in October 2023, Neta V is a product of China-based automaker Neta Auto. Neta V, priced at RM99,300, is sold under the brand Neta Auto Malaysia which is owned by Intro Synergy Sdn Bhd.     

Intro Synergy Sdn Bhd is a wholly owned company of Go Automobile Manufacturing (GAM) Sdn Bhd, which has stakes in various businesses including car manufacturing, assembly, distribution and suppliance of government fleets. 

Neta V has a driving range of 380km, according to the New European Driving Cycle (NDEC) standard and accelerates from 0 – 50km/h in 3.9s. It takes 30 minutes to get from 30 – 80% battery level for DC fast charge and 8 hours from 0 – 100% for AC home charge. 

Sporting a crossover compact design, Neta V measures 4,070mm and comes with an expandable boot volume of 335L to 552L.  

#2 BYD Dolphin Standard – RM100,000

The BYD Dolphin officially started selling in Malaysia in July 2023 through BYD, a partnership company formed between China-based BYD Auto Industry and Malaysia’s Sime Darby Motors. 

Sime Darby Motors is the automotive arm of conglomerate Sime Darby Bhd and owns the Inokom assembly plant in Kedah, which assembles the Porsche Cayenne model for purchase within the country.   

Priced at RM100,000, BYD Dolphin Standard has a driving range of 410km and hits from 0 – 100km/h in 12.3s. 

BYD Dolphin has a hatchback design with a length of 4,290mm and boot space of 345L to 1,310L.  

#3 MG4 EV – RM103,999

With the third vehicle, we officially crossed the RM100,000 price mark. MG4 EV was launched in March 2024 in Malaysia by Chinese company SAIC Motor Malaysia.  

At RM103,999, MG4 EV has a modern design that exudes youthfulness with its sharp lines. The vehicle has a 520km driving range and comes with a battery capacity of around 51kWh. 

The vehicle also offers fast charge that allows you to charge your car from 10% to 80% in 38 minutes.   

#4 BYD M6 – RM109,800

Launched just a few months ago in October 2024, BYD M6 is the company’s first three-row multi-purpose vehicle (MPV). 

Suitable for families who need larger space, BYD M6 comes with up to 580L luggage capacity. 

The electric MPV has a driving range of 420 km powered by battery capacity of 55.4kW 

#5 GAC Aion Y Plus – RM119,090

GAC Aion Y Plus is a product of Guangzhou Automobile AION, which collaborated with local company Warisan TC Holdings to bring the vehicle into the local market in May 2024. 

The Aion Y Plus, which is priced at RM119,090, is a five-seater mini MPV that boasts a driving range of 490km and a battery capacity of 63.2kWh. 

The Aion Y Plus comes in as many as ten colors including gold, green and grey and measures at 4,535mm.
